This is an audio version of our YouTube video. This is the biggest and most important football match in Europe (and arguably the world) every single season. The Champions League is the pinnacle of club football for every team across Europe, from the depths of the lower leagues to the heights of top-flight divisions… this is the tournament everyone wants to be a part of and the tournament that everyone is desperate to win.

This season’s Champions League final sees two of the Premier League’s top sides go head-to-head in Porto, Portugal. Manchester City steamrolled their domestic rivals this season, producing some scintillating football in the second half of the campaign to streak clear of their title challengers. Their title bid was never in doubt from about February.

Meanwhile, their European campaign has been just as good. They breezed through their group, only dropping points against Porto once qualification was already secured. And that’s the only game they haven’t won in the Champions League this season. How terrifying is that? They’ve gone on to beat Gladbach, Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain home and away in every tie on their way to the final! Oh, and they won the League Cup in February. What a superb season they’ve had.

Let’s look at Chelsea now. It’s been a season of two halves for the Blues; the first half of their campaign was under the tutelage of club legend Frank Lampard. Unfortunately, his time was cut short at Stamford Bridge after Roman Abramovich gave him the chop following a poor run of form following the Christmas period.

It didn’t take long for Thomas Tuchel to be appointed and the German soon made his presence felt, tightening up a leaky defence and making sure that the Blues were solid at the back and penetrative going forward. Chelsea were 9th when Lampard was sacked but have made their way back to near the summit under Tuchel. They ended the season in 4th position, meaning they’ve qualified for the Champions League next season whether or not they lift the Champions League trophy in Portugal.

The west Londoners’ campaign has been a little more interesting for their fans. They made light work of a simple group stage before going on to beat the likes of Atletico Madrid, Porto and Real Madrid (in the semi-finals) to secure their place in the biggest club competition finale of them all. Let’s hope for an entertaining game, no matter the result.
