Belgium have been building their way into the tournament.  They began with a 3-0 battering of Russia which helped to settle any pre-tournament nerves. They followed that up with a narrow victory over Denmark, and then rounded off their Group success with a simple victory over Finland that saw them end the group stage with a 100% record as they breezed into the knockout phase. Romelu Lukaku has been there main goal-getter upfront, he's been supported well by the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and actually Eden Hazard’s brother Thorgan. Their Round of 16 clash with Portugal will be the first true test of their credentials to lift the trophy this year. An early exit from the tournament for this golden generation would be a bitter disappointment - and a blot on Roberto Martinez’s copybook.

 

Portugal, meanwhile, successfully escaped the Group of Death - but it wasn't without worry in a hotly contested group between three major heavyweights and one plucky underdog. Cristiano Ronaldo turned back the clock to continue his fine scoring run in international competitions (especially at the Euros). Bruno Fernandes was actually dropped for their third game against France and also Joao Felix has rarely featured after picking up a minor knock in their first game against Hungary. They’re certainly very exciting going forward, but also look quite susceptible in their backline, so this game could be brilliant to watch for the neutral.
