It’s Matchday 17 of the 2020/21 campaign, so let’s get involved.  We start 2021 with a bang in La Liga with el Gran Derbi between Real Betis and Sevilla. The Seville derby will be played at the Benito Villamarin, but Betis star Joaquin will miss out due to testing positive Covid-19 test. But this game has all the ingredients for fireworks.  Also in action on Saturday is Villarreal and Levante. Villarreal are up in fourth but have hit a bit of a dodgy run in recent weeks. They’ll want to maintain their Champions League qualification hopes when they take on a Levante side currently 12th in the standings.   Later on Saturday, we have Getafe – desperate to move away from the danger zone – against Real Valladolid – another side embroiled in a real battle for survival. Both sides are keen to start the new year with maximum points and really kick-start their campaign to give them real hopes of survival.   Saturday evening closes with the defending champions Real Madrid at home to Celta Vigo. The visitors are one of La Liga’s form sides following a disappointing beginning to the season. The northerners are now up to eighth in the standings and are chasing European football for next season. Real, meanwhile, know that they need to keep winning if they’re to catch Atletico at the top of the table.  Into Sunday, and we start in the Basque region as Athletic take on Elche. The visitors are struggling for league wins and currently sit 15th. Athletic, meanwhile, are mid-table and are keen to look up the table, rather than down, in 2021.  The league leaders Atletico are away at Alaves later in the day, and we also have games between Eibar and Granada, and Real Sociedad and Osasuna to enjoy.  Sunday’s evening action sees Barcelona on the road at bottom of the table Huesca. Ronald Koeman’s side have only won two league away games this season, and that will need to dramatically improve if they’re going to make a real challenge for top spot at any point in the upcoming six months until the end of the season.   Finally, on Monday, the latest round of fixtures concludes when Valencia host Cadiz. Valencia are threatened by relegation. With just three league wins all season, Javi Gracia’s side are level on points with Valladolid and sit above the dropzone on goal difference.   Eduardo Siles is once again in the hot seat for our Odds On: La Liga betting preview show. He is again joined by compatriot and amigo Alvaro Romeo to discuss all things Spanish football. They’re getting so competitive with their tips it’s like having Cristiano and Messi back together. They’re here to analyse, preview and dissect La Liga’s Matchday 17 action.   For all the latest La Liga odds, head to http://oddspedia.com/football where you’ll find everything you need to secure your best bet.   And don’t forget to check our betting tools to discover Sure Bets, Dropping Odds, Value Bets, Blocked Odds and Blocked Matches to give you the upper hand this weekend.
