El Clasico. It’s the big one. Twice a season this comes around and it’s always the most important game of the weekend in La Liga. Barcelona vs Real Madrid. This game used to represent Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo, but now it’s Messi vs Sergio Ramos. Maybe?   This week’s Clasico has a very different feel to it. Both sides have suffered in recent times both on and off the pitch. Barcelona’s summer was nothing short of a disaster.

The 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich was a humiliation for the Catalan club, but the Lionel Messi saga was potentially even more damaging to the club. The world’s greatest player – desperate – to leave Camp Nou for pastures new. The Argentine Magician stayed, but at what cost? Leo is looking a little lost at the moment. We feel he could do with an arm around the shoulder and a big hug, but we’re not sure you’d want one of those from new boss Ronald Koeman.

Real, meanwhile, are perennially on the edge of meltdown. Despite the fact their manager has led them to numerous Champions League titles, and they’re the defending league champions after a terrific array of performances post-lockdown. The fact of the matter is that Los Blancos has always been run like this, and the board, directors and owners will always see head coaches as dispensable. Could a big defeat to Barcelona see the end of Zizou at the Bernabeu for a second time? We will have to wait and see.

It’s hard to think otherwise, but el Clasico isn’t the only game being played this weekend in the Primera Division. Atletico will look to pick up the pieces after their 4-0 defeat to Bayern in midweek European action, Valencia are desperate to find some form and Getafe will aim to continue their fine start to the 2020/21 campaign as Madrid’s third club.   As always, host Eduardo is joined by Spanish football expert Alvaro Romeo to discuss each and every fixture in matchday 7 of La Liga 2020/21.

Our two protagonists (think of them as Cristiano and Lionel, but with genuine adoration for one another) cover all the vital info, news and headlines you’ll need to place your best bet ahead of La Liga matchday 7.   For all the latest La Liga odds ahead of this year’s finals, head to oddspedia.com/football.
