In episode 27 of The One Fab Day Wedding Podcast, we’re tackling a subject that isn’t often spoken about, but affects pretty much every engaged couple - wedding-related stress and anxiety. This could be anything from pre-ceremony nerves to the kind of severe anxiety that warrants a trip to see a doctor or mental health professional. We asked psychotherapist and author Stella O’Malley to help us answer some of the bigger questions on this topic, including, "How can I minimise conflict with my family members around my wedding?"and "How do I know that it's time to see a councellor about my anxiety?", as well as offering our own practical tips, and handy coping mechanisms for managing wedding-related stress.

Episode Breakdown: Anxiety, Stress and Your Wedding: How to Deal

Wedding tip: Celina's nugget of wisdom this week is to avoid hitting the shops in the last few weeks of wedding planning. Sure, those Wifey for Lifey socks are cute, but not essential!

Main topic: If you're currently planning a wedding, there's a very high chance that you've already experienced a little bit of stress, be it guest list, budget or weather-related! That's why we wanted to clear a space in our podcast schedule for a frank discussion about anxiety and weddings, including some invaluable tips from psychologist Stella O’Malley on managing your frustrations, be they large or small, and practical advice that will leave you in the best possible position to enjoy the planning process!

Wedding dilemma: A listener writes, “My sister showed me a picture of the dress she’s bought for my wedding and although it’s not a wedding dress, it’s pretty close! It’s white and knee-length, and kind of bridalish, it’s the sort of dress that a bride would wear to a civil ceremony or city hall wedding. She’s really excited about it, so obviously I don’t want to wreck her buzz, but at the same time, I know she can easily find another dress that isn’t so bridal. Am I being unreasonable if I ask her to return the dress and get another one?" Our advice this week includes evaluating the bridal factor of your own wedding-day outfit, and asking a family member or mutual friend to have a quiet word with your sister!

Something to do when you're not planning your wedding: In this episode, Celina's recommending a digital detox, but only for one night!
