Angus Brandt and Rhys Vague often have to pinch themselves when they consider the odd parallel that has landed them on the same roster again.

The frontcourt pair first found success on the court as part of the Perth Wildcat dynasty, with Brandt and Vague sharing NBL championship honours in both 2017 and 2019, with Vague also having been part of two more victorious teams in 2016 and 2020.

Now after respective stints in Italy, China and New Zealand, Brandt and Vague are both wearing the yellow and black of the Kagawa Five Arrows, a club in the Japanese second division that, behind the efforts of their Australian tandem, are beginning to gather momentum at the top of the table.

In another episode of One on One, Daniel talks to Brandt and Vague to discuss the unexpected intersection of their careers, the secrets behind their early-season success and the Japanese lifestyle. They begin by speaking about the differences between the Asian game to the NBL and NBA market, before diving into topics away from the court, including the pair’s shared passion for photography and living under COVID-19 during the Olympics and Paralympics period.
