Today we bring you another international episode, featuring Marcel Halma, the Global Director of Public Affairs & Government Relations at Nouryon. Marcel started his impressive career as a diplomat in the Netherlands at the age of 26. From there, he held various positions in government and the private sector, and has been with Nouryon since 2018. 

Nouryon is a global leader in specialty chemicals. Nouryon is a relatively new name, but it has a stunning 400 year history in the field - it was formerly a part of AkzoNobel. It has over 10,000 employees that operate in 80 countries around the world. 

  • Marcel graduated from the University of Amsterdam with a minor in economics and a Masters in American Studies and Political Science.
  • At the age of 26, Marcel’s dream of becoming a diplomat came true. Marcel spent roughly the next 15 years as a diplomat
  • He then went to Brussels as Head of Communications of Minister for European Affairs Frans Timmermans
  • After leaving government service, Marcel worked in the private sector for the next several years
  • In 2018, Marcel joined Nouryon, where he is now the Global Director of Public Affairs.
