“Never give up. Never quit.”

Retired United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills of the 82nd Airborne is a recalibrated warrior, motivational speaker, actor, author and an advocate for veterans and amputees. Despite losing portions of both arms and legs from an IED while on active duty in Afghanistan, Travis continues to overcome life’s challenges, breaking physical barriers and defying odds.

In September 2013, Travis and his wife Kelsey founded the Travis Mills Foundation, a nonprofit organization, formed to benefit and assist post 9/11 veterans who have been injured in active duty or as a result of their service to our nation. The Travis Mills Group LLC was started shortly after, where Travis consults with and speaks to companies and organizations nationwide inspiring all to overcome life’s challenges and adversity.

This Episode’s Heavy-hitter’s:

- In those immediate moments after Travis was critically injured by the explosion of an IED, he tried again and again to refuse medical attention so that his fellow service members could get help first.
- Travis has found resilience and the power to keep pushing from living in the moment. He explains that he doesn’t dwell in the past; he reminisces about the good times.
- He doesn’t fear the future impact of his injuries; he just plans it as far as he can.
- After having lots of veterans come up to him and talk about their mental health struggles on the road, Travis launched the Warrior PATHH program to help facilitate post-traumatic growth through a lifelong journey.
- Travis looks at Memorial Day a bit differently than most people. For him, it’s a day for him to remember his friends and fellow service members that have lost their lives and made the ultimate sacrifice, but it’s also a day to celebrate them and enjoy the day off in remembrance of them.
- Actor Gary Sinise who played Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump built a handicap accessible house after Travis’s combat injuries via his Gary Sinise Foundation.
- Gary’s foundation and help was part of the impetus for Travis founding the Travis Mills Foundation.
