Hi everyone, it’s Jen with a time-sensitive update recorded Monday, April 6th, 2020. As you’re well aware, the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting every industry in the world in different ways. Today I’m sharing a conversation with Samantha Smith, the founder of an app called Vishion which is a color search engine created for the interior design world. Interior designers and professional organizers are closely related enough to be siblings, so it’s really worth a listen to understand what is happening in their businesses right now, too.

In case you didn’t know, the High Point Market is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world, bringing more than 75,000 people to High Point, North Carolina, every six months. Serious retail home furnishings buyers, interior designers, architects, and others in the home furnishings industry can be found in High Point twice a year because if you can’t find it in High Point…it probably doesn’t exist.

Originally scheduled this spring for April 25-29, a hopeful postponement was announced for June. This condensed Market will run for 3 days instead of the typical 5 and will likely include minimal programming, keeping the focus on appointments and sales meetings within the showrooms.

What this means is that a huge gap is left right now where designers typically cherish the opportunity to travel to High Point to shop, be inspired, learn from industry experts, and spend time socializing with their dear friends and community. You’re about to meet my friend Sam who stepped up to fill this need by creating a virtual market week for April 13th-15th. I’m also excited to be contributing a session on adapting to virtual project management as part of the event her company is hosting.

I hope that you’ll be intrigued by this opportunity to connect and learn from experts in the home services industry and share it with your network of both designers and pro organizer friends who could benefit. If nothing else, Sam’s hustle and heart will hopefully inspire you to not wait to step up and be creative in adapting to the changing needs of this unique time in history.
