Brad Burton: How To Start A Networking Business - a podcast by Ben Gothard | Project EGG

Building relationships is an incredibly important part of growing a business. Learning how to network can be the difference between stagnation and growth. In this interview, Brad Burton, Founder of 4Networking, shares his origin story and teaches how to start a networking business.

When Brad was in school, a teacher told him that he would never amount to anything. He admits that for a majority of his life so far, that was true. He was largely unexceptional until something changed. In his 30's, his son Ben came along. At that point, his perspective changed from being about himself to being about his son and making a life for Ben.

Growing up, he was a normal kid from a working class home. He never did anything exceptional and never thought he would amount to what he is today. He wasn't great at school, but he was great with people. He didn't recognize this as the strength that it is until he started his business and realized his gift for networking.

When Ben was new, Brad left his job and started delivering pizzas for a living. He started his business but knew it would take time to grow. At that time, he promised Ben that he would take him to Disney World. He used that vision of taking his family to Disney World to push him forward and to find ways to make his business work. He visualized himself with a successful business and worked to make it a reality.

He also encourages new entrepreneurs to remember that it takes time to build a business. So find a mentor and learn from his or her mistakes. Don't copy everything they did because you are different, but learn from others who have done it before. These other business owners can help you avoid making the same mistakes they did.
