Myanmar is having a recurring nightmare.

The country has endured more years of military dictatorship than democratic rule, but this week's coup still came as a surprise.

Its leader Aung San Suu Kyi is believed to be under house arrest, and other political leaders were also detained by the military in raids on Monday.

So is this the end of Myanmar's democracy project, or will the Burmese people fight back?
