Housing advocate Shams Da Baron, best known as Da Homeless Hero. Shams shares his personal story of his life long struggles of homelessness. Da Baron shares being in the NYC shelter system, being a victim of political red tape with relates to housing. From living in SRO's to family shelters, this episode looks at housing struggles from a clients' perspective.
As a result of his life long struggles of homelessness, he has become a strong advocate to change housing policy under current New York City Mayor Eric Adams. We discuss the struggles New York City is having relating to housing.
Also featured in this episode, is Rosita Marinez, MS-NPL, ADV-CSW, MSW. Rosita is one of the co-authors of the Amazon best seller, Latinx in Social Work Vol. 2. She is currently the Senior Vice President for Supported Housing at the Institute for Community Living (ICL) in New York City.
