Your feet take you to a convenience store fridge. You see rows upon rows of cans and bottles beckoning. Choose me. Choose. Me. You search through a dozen kinds of coffee, soda, iced tea, designer water. You search through memory for ones you’ve tried, imagination for the ones you haven’t.

You choose. Like a million other decisions made daily, you choose. You reach out. The bottle starts to quiver. It sprouts eyes and arms. A few centimeters from touching, it turns around and walks away.

You called. I answered. You let go. That’s what it was like to love you.
