It seems that almost every week we are subjected to headlines warning how technology is bringing automation and robots into our world that will imminently threaten millions of jobs.

While machines are taking away repetitive or mundane tasks they also allow people to concentrate on bringing real value to businesses in roles that technology cannot perform.

While traditional jobs may well start to disappear, there are a wealth of new roles and opportunities during this digital transformation. Those that are happy to evolve and move with the changes might even find themselves arriving at the elusive destination of a perfect work–life balance.

Critics might argue that a virtual world of freelancers is incredibly unstable and uncertain for parents raising a family. However, it many cases its quite the opposite, for example if you were made redundant or fired from your current role, you have essentially put all of your eggs in one basket and have to start from scratch.

Freelancers, solopreneurs and virtual assistants often juggle over a dozen clients and if they lose one of them they still have others work streams to fall back on.

In this episode, I interview Ruth Cringle who has set up her own virtual assistant business called Admin Elite.
