In this episode we talk about phase 2 of observation: Organization. How do you organize your thoughts? Out load and often muddled or violently? If you don’t write down your thoughts you are not organizing your thoughts. Be prepared to be insulted in today's episodes of Bible Study 101.

Jonah Outline Sample

1. Book Title: Jonah Plays Yahweh in a game of "Will Chess".

a. Book Summary: God tells Jonah to Nineveh and give them a warning: IF they repent God will relent. Jonah, not being a fan of the Ninevites, decided to show his displeasure by running in the opposite direction. In response God got him swallowed by a sea monster where he spent 3 long days until he repented. The beast hacks up a pasty (I assume) Jonah on the shore. Jonah beasts feet to the terrible city and sounds the alarm. To Jonah's great dismay, the Ninevites repents and Jonah rejoices in all the souls saved… No, he goes and sulks outsized the city, where God calls him on his childishness and we never get to see if Jonah grows up.

2. Jonah disobeys God [Major Section Chapter 1-2]

a. Section Summary: Jonah gets in the battle of the will with Yahweh, to God of Israel, when Yahweh tells Jonah something he could not abide. So he runs and says to God, your move. God quickly "catches up" to him with a storm so fierce it rocks him to sleep? The other sailors lose their collective minds thinking that can out paddle the storm but toss Jonah overboard. God sends Jonah a water companion in the form of some sea monster and then Jonah spends the next 3 days in the belly of the beast composing poetry and saying prayers.

2. Chapter 1: Jonah runs in the opposite direction as Nineveh

i. Chapter Summary: God tells Jonah to go to Nineveh but Jonah does not want to so he boards a ship and heads to Tarshish. On his way to Tarshish God sends a storm, the sailors freak out, and eventually toss Jonah overboard at his own request.

1. Q&C: Why did Jonah go from running to suicide? Would he rather die than go to Nineveh?

ii. Jonah Thrown from the Ship [v13-19]

1. Sub-Section Summary: The sailors loose at rowing and toss Jonah over in desperation.

3. Chapter 2: God Delivers Jonah from the Fish

2. Jonah obeys God [Major Section Chapter 3-4]

a. Chapter 3: Jonah Obeys God and preaches Nineveh is delivered from Gods wrath

b. Chapter 4: Jonah has an "wrathful" response to God withholding His wrath

3. Q&C: Did Jonah change his mind in response to God's questions at the very end? Does the lack of an answer to this question hint at the possible meaning or purpose of the book?

4. Other Interesting Notes

a. Jonah was "housed" by a fish then went to the "house of the fish" [Fish being the god of the Ninevite city.
