Digital communications have changed the way we live and our capacity to connect with people from all over the world. However, they are also capable of facilitating surveillance with unprecedented access to our personal data, social networks, and so forth. This KTLS18 panel raises questions over the threat big data poses for human rights alongside increasing concerns about national security and transnationally organised crime.

The panel includes Gavin Sullivan (University of Kent), Eric King (Queen Mary University), Anne Roth (Policy Advisor, German Bundestag), Wendy Betts (eyeWitness to Atrocities), and Vitor Ido (University of São Paulo & Fundação Getúlio Vargas).
