The Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre of Politics, Philosophy & Law hosted the celebrated moral philosopher Professor Martha Nussbaum for the launch of her book 'The Monarchy of Fear'.

In 'The Monarchy of Fear', Professor Nussbaum argues that globalisation has produced feelings of powerlessness in millions of people in the West and that sense of powerless then turns into resentment and blame.

Professor Nussbaum is internationally renowned for her work in Ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, feminist philosophy, political philosophy, and philosophy and the arts and is actively engaged in teaching and advising students in these subjects. She has received numerous awards and honorary degrees and is the author of many books and articles.

Professor Nussbaum’s introductory talk was followed by comments from Munira Mirza (former Deputy Mayor of London), Jessica Simor QC (Matrix Chambers), David Goodhart (Policy Exchange), and Henry Newman (Open Europe). The event was introduced by Professor John Tasioulas, Director of the YTL Centre for Politics, Philosophy & Law.
