TECHNICAL NOTE: the introduction of this teaching is missing because the power went out-so it picks up right when the power was restored!

Matthew 7:13-20 "narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." George shared how he thinks the "narrow road" is not doctrinal correctness, but rather the practice of what Jesus has been teaching in these few chapters of the Sermon on the Mount [being merciful, peace-making, enemy-loving, dealing with anger + reconciliation, meaning what you say, worrying + judging less; just to name a few.]

At the end of the gathering, George also leads us in a short reflection on Jesus' words "by their fruit you will recognize them." What did Jesus mean by "good fruit?" Perhaps it was the practice of love.

We'd love for you to join us in person at one of our Sunday gatherings--10a at Gower Elementary. You can visit us online at vuechurch.org

SLIDES/QUOTES George read in our gathering:

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, & self-control

- The Fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22-23

Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention.

Be wary of false preachers who smile a lot, dripping with practiced sincerity. Chances are they are out to rip you off some way or other. Don’t be impressed with charisma; look for character. Who preachers are is the main thing, not what they say. A genuine leader will never exploit your emotions or your pocketbook. These diseased trees with their bad apples are going to be chopped down and burned.

-Eugene Peterson, The Message Bible [Matthew 7:13-20]
