Ep 114 | Taking It Personally - a podcast by Amer Abu Shakra, Austin Trudeau, & John Morgan III

:: ::

The amount of emotional investment someone puts into a given subject will directly relate to how likely it is they will take criticism, personally.

If you think back to past experiences in your life when you’ve acted emotionally – compared to logically, you may notice that you have favoured an idea, irrationally because of the personal beliefs you built over time, closing yourself off from other possibilities. When it comes to sentimental beliefs, it may almost feel like “there is a big sunk cost if [one] were to switch camps” (Austin).

In this week’s episode, Amer, Austin, and John explore the concept of making a distinction between an idea and the person who holds it. Without embracing this concept, any opposition on an idea will likely be received as an opposition to yourself. (John)
