The SEC should drop the litigation over Ripple's XRP token says J.W. Verret associate professor of law. The $2 trillion cryptocurrency market needs more investor protection in the U.S., including possible regulations for crypto exchanges, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler said Thursday. Argentina-based e-commerce leader MercadoLibre has disclosed that it purchased $7.8 million worth of bitcoin earlier this year, with plans to hold the asset on its balance sheet indefinitely. Users of the Bakkt App will soon be able to spend crypto and loyalty points on payments company Cantaloupe’s “unattended retail” network. U.K. digital banking service Revolut will allow its crypto customers to transfer bitcoin purchased on the platform elsewhere for the first time.
