Riding public transportation while female is an experience in and of itself, and often presents challenges that are not considered in transportation planning. Around the world, our experiences may differ depending on the level of acceptance of being a woman in a public space - but the bottom line is that comfort for everyone needs to be the priority in order to increase riders of public transportation.

In this episode we talk with Nidhi Gulati of the Livable Streets Alliance in Boston, Massachusetts, who talks about her experiences on public transit in her native India. Join us as we discuss tactics for avoiding unwanted male attention, women-only sections of subways (and whether it's a good idea), and what a flaneur is anyway.

Nidhi Gulati can be found at @gulatinidhi on Twitter, and you can learn more about the Livable Streets Alliance projects on their site: http://www.livablestreets.info/
