ARCTIC MEMORIES by Wendell Amisimak Stalker
Arctic Memories is a volume of 6 short stories like the ones my grandparents used to tell me when I was a child about the old ones. Written in the style of old Eskimo story telling, they tell of a time when Shamans used to guide the village hunters to be successful and avoid danger. Old stories of "the people" before contact with western civilization.
Author Bio: Wendell Amisimak Stalker. I am Inupiaq Eskimo. I was born in the small village of Noatak on the Noatak River that flows into the Kotzebue Sound on the northwest coast of Alaska, above the Arctic Circle. I grew up in and around the area of Kotzebue. I am a musician, artist, ivory carver, and story writer. Many long winters growing up were spent singing, dancing, playing Eskimo games, and listening to stories told by my elders. I've always been passionate about this and impressed by the influence it had on people around me and the decisions they made in life. I am so excited to finally be able to bring those stories inside me to everyone, and share my interest in preserving the foundations set by my ancestors. My stories are a reflection of my heritage above the Arctic Circle in Alaska.
