SCHOOL DAZE & BEYOND by Vashti HindsThis book started out initially as a children’s book, using true stories to illustrate the benefits of telling the truth, obedience to parents and other morals, interwoven with the history of then British Guiana and the mining town where I grew up. Beyond addressed travel to Africa, Europe and other Caribbean countries of which I had read as a child. Being raised in a Christian community each story is proceeded by a verse of scripture which corresponds with the story.“Born on the East Coast of Demerara, Vashti Hinds was mostly raised in the Upper Demerara River district of the Christianburg which is a component of what is now known as Linden. She attended the Church of Scotland School at Christianburg, then St. Joseph’s Convent High School in Georgetown before leaving British Guiana at the age of 16 to attend Caribbean Union College in Trinidad.
