101. Aileen Sweeney - a podcast by Seb Philpott and Verity Simmons

In the first of two special episodes linked to the Cheltenham festival, this week’s guest is composer Aileen Sweeney. Aileen has written a piece which forms part of the site specific work ‘Byrdwatching’ which premieres on sat 8 July.

Even by TIAB’s usual standards this is a brilliantly bonkers episode which careers around a whole host of subjects - with a smattering of music chat thrown in for good measure!

Aileen talks about taking an extended break from composing, getting the rage at Ceilidhs, her opinions on Beethoven& Byrd, writing for recorder consort - not something she’d naturally have chosen but has embraced with open arms. She also discusses a close call with a writing deadline and a fail safe compositional tool…

Seb and Verity both recount near death experiences had that week and give Aileen some words of warning about upcoming plans!
