How do you overcome a low Step 1 Score and still get into residency!?
Step 1 has turned into more of a pass/fail exam and if you don't perform well, there are still things you can do to be able to reach residency. Step 2 is key and being prepared for that and performing is really important.
But outside of exams, you have to reflect on yourself and the work you've done. Why do you want to be a doctor? What are other experiences you've had that are transferable to being a doctor!? You might not know it but being a captain in a sports team or leading your organization can help your cause and really do help you in your career in medicine.
These are the experiences that you put together to help you get that residency. Your exam scores are one thing but your own unique experiences are another. You're not completely dealing with robots that have complicated algorithms, you're dealing with people and it's up to you to show whoever is evaluating your profile, that you're a match for their open position.
