  • Antony started out doing silversmithing and went onto do two degrees in design.
  • Remembers in 1996 walking into an army surplus and buying a knife when you could carry a knife without issues.
  • In 2012 he and his partner decided to go into business together where the decision was made that they would put time and energy into making products.
  • In 2015 they had a house fire in their home which involved their office space. So, during the rebuild of their lives and home/ office.
  • Recount how his father always wanted to be a chocolatier but never did and it made him want to do the person who doesn’t get to do the thing that makes him happy.
  • Works out of 2m x3m shed and decided that he didn’t want to wait till he had a bigger shed.
  • Fells he is in a very lucky situation that he is where he can make what he wants and has a partner that supports him.
  • Feels that knives are the very integral to who we are now and historically.
  • He started out making kitchen knives but realized that he wanted to make something different.
  • As a designer, he looked at the idea of the knife as a problem that needed to be solved.
  • Isn’t looking to create art knives he wants to create a usable product.
  • Is hoping to submit his 3 knives soon to become a member of the Australian Knifemakers Guild.
  • Feels he kind of takes some of the accepted rules in knife making and pushes the, to dee if he can make them work.
  • Workshops are like budgets you can work to what you’ve got as efficient as possible. Of always be wanting more. And never get anything done with what you have.
  • The 18 cutlery co came from a tattoo of 18 in the palm of his hand. And the idea for that came from a manga movie (Akira).
  • Talks about his initial design and starts out his ideas in small thumbnail size pics before he moves to full-sized drawings.
  • Even then he still hasn’t finished the design process till he has made the knife.
