A-League champions Melbourne Victory have been stung by the loss of another key player with Rhys Williams departing for Saudi Arabia.

The fringe Socceroos defender was contracted for another year and it now leaves coach Kevin Muscat with plenty work to do on the recruitment front after the recent departures of Besart Berisha to Japan and James Donachie to South Korea.

New Perth Glory manager Tony Popovic will go up against former side Western Sydney Wanderers in the opening round of the 2018-19 A-League season.

The game, which is set for Sunday, October 21, will be the first time Popovic will coach against the Wanderers since departing club in October 2017.

Adding further interest to the clash will be former Wanderers fans favourite Brendan Santalab who has joined Popovic in Perth after being told he was unwanted by Western Sydney for the upcoming season.
The Round one fixtures will takes place later than usual due to a FIFA international window earlier that month.
