And Van Marwijk, who will stand down as Australia boss after their elimination from Group C, acknowledged that his side lacked the ability to convert chances into goal.

"We played against France, Denmark and Peru, in all three games we gave good performances and this team has really improved since the day I started working with them," van Marwijk said.

"We became better and better, but at the World Cup you can see for this team it is difficult to make goals at this level, because against France we were at least equal and against Denmark even better.

"But in all three games we couldn't make the difference in goals and that is something this squad misses at this level.

To the FFA Cup and the round of 32 draw has been conducted with plenty of exciting match ups.
