The 44-year-old inov-8 ambassador completed Great Britain’s oldest – and arguably toughest – National Trail in an incredible time of 61 hours 34 minutes, beating the previous record by more than three hours. That previous record was set by his friend, American John Kelly, just the week before. Prior to that it had stood unbeaten for 31 years, belonging to Mike Hartley.

The dad-of-two from Wiltshire, England, and his 11 teams of pacers also cleaned the famous trail of litter as they ran, stuffing it in their packs before handing it to support team members at road crossing meet-up points.

The whole attempt was certified as ‘carbon negative’, by Our Carbon. Damian, a climate change campaigner, used the challenge to help raise funds for Greenpeace UK https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/penninewaybimble

He completed the record run at 7:34pm on Friday night in Edale, Derbyshire, having started at 6am on Wednesday morning in Kirk Yetholm, Scottish Borders. His route along the Pennine Way amassed more ascent than Mount Everest and included a section along Hadrian’s Wall.

Damian ran it from north to south – the same direction as Mike Hartley. John Kelly ran it south to north.
