In this episode we hear from Dr. Patrick Anquetil, CEO of Portal Instruments, a medical device company based in Boston, MA that aims to make needles and syringes a thing of the past. I asked Patrick about his journey from graduate research to becoming an equity analyst, and then returning to Harvard Business School to pursue his entrepreneurial interests. In his most recent venture, Portal Instruments, his team has developed a novel drug delivery technology originally licensed from MIT (lab of Dr. Ian Hunter), and is commercializing this technology through partnership with Takeda. We talked about the advantages of this technology over traditional needles and syringes, and what this means for patients with various chronic conditions that need to self-medicate. It was also inspiring to hear him speak about the importance of creating the right workplace culture to support integrated teamwork and innovation. He has a unique approach to leadership, and as I found out, also has a talent for being an educator. Most importantly, he is a visionary, an innovator, and he is just starting to tap into the potential of this new technology.
