Tonight we will be doing our best to demystify the dental dam on #SexbytheBi with Nat and Amelia. We’ll be joined by sex educator @louiselabouche to talk about the dental dam. Not exactly the sexiest words in the world! Do you use them for vaginal or anal oral sex? What are the advantages of using them? Do they provide good STI protection as an alternative that doesn’t focus on condoms?
Safer sex messages around STI prevention generally revolve around condoms arguably due to society’s focus on the cis male body. However, the dam doesn’t get much of a look in. They aren’t readily available and anecdotally it seems like no one is using them. But is that because they are hard to find and expensive? If they were more readily available and marketed better would we feel better talking about using them? And how do you use them properly anyway?
