James Butler Hickok, better known as "Wild Bill" Hickok, was a folk hero of the old west known for his work across the frontier as a wagon master, soldier, spy, scout, lawman, gunfighter, gambler, showman, and actor. He earned a great deal of notoriety, hugely in part, by the tales that he told about his own life. Some believe his exploits to be fictitious, but they remain the basis of much of his fame and reputation. Whether you believe the hype or not, Hickok has one hell of a story, and will always be considered an American legend. He fought a bear, ya know? Just sayin'.
