Now that we’re coming up on the end of the year, what do you have to show for all the hard work you’ve put in over the past several months? Did you meet any personal goals? Maybe some business goals?
Unfortunately, for most people, the simple act of goal setting can turn a relatively simple aspiration into a pipe dream – or, even worse, a perceived failure – within a matter of months.
Luckily, our guest on this episode of unsuitable, Rea’s COO Jeremy Senften, is going to tell us what the heck we’re doing wrong so that, the next time we set a goal, we don’t fall flat on our faces.
Setting Goals & Executing Them
The secret to goal-setting is that it’s not as difficult as we often make it out to be – we just set ourselves up for failure because we don’t have a plan. But if you follow the steps below and break your big goals into smaller steps, you’ll be making progress and achieving your goals in no time.
If you want to get more done in 2019, you will want to follow this simple formula for goal setting:
Have a vision, passion, or problem to solve. You don’t want to set yourself up for failure by pursuing a goal you don’t really want to achieve.
Know your “Why”(and then write it down and put it somewhere you will see it every day).
Figure out what smaller, incremental steps it will take to achieve your big goal. These small goals are much easier to focus on and see progress, which will give you the momentum you need to keep going.
Track your progress so that you know you’re always moving the ball forward.
Have an accountability partner/group – because we all need support when life happens and things get difficult!
