Elisha the prophet lived in the era when God’s people were divided into the northern kingdom (Israel) and southern kingdom (Judah). Elisha, like his mentor Elijah before him, was a prophet to Israel which had largely exchanged worshiping God for idol worship. In this passage, God continues to watch out for his wayward people by passing warnings through Elisha to the king of Israel. God also continues to pursue individuals such as the young man in this account.
