Jesus is always a surprise. We should never be surprised that in every
situation his hope is at hand. But we are. Maybe it’s just that we forget to pay attention. Maybe it’s that we’re so preoccupied with other stories (ours or the ones that the world says are so important) that we do not even see the main story—his story—unfolding before us. Mark understands this. He has a unique way of telling the story of Jesus (sandwiching a story within a story). For Mark, Jesus is the story that disrupts our stories. Jesus is the story that almost gets missed entirely but that ultimately overturns and resolves all other stories. Jesus is eager to disrupt our lives, and he calls us to join the disruption “Come follow me.”

This week we explore the concept of how Spiritual power is the power of the Spirit applying God’s forgiveness to the situation.
