Does anger have a place in Christianity? Although the answer to the question is yes, many Christians have displaced anger or it looks militarized. The real question is, “What is righteous anger?” Mark 3:1-6 tells a story about Jesus healing a man’s withered hand on the Sabbath, which was culturally considered a sin, unless it was a life-threatening situation. The religious leaders were silenced when Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil?” This story is an example of Jesus' anger when the religious people did not show mercy and created rules that were more important than the people they served. Another story about Jesus’ anger is found in Mark 10:13-16. People were bringing children to Jesus and the disciples rebuked them. The disciples were judging who was worthy of seeing Jesus. Jesus was indignant because even His own disciples did not understand that everyone is welcome to be at God’s gate. Another example is found in Luke 19:45-48, which tells about a time Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out religious leaders who were selling for their personal financial gain. He was angry and informed them that His house was to be a house of prayer for all nations. These three stories make it clear about what should make us angry: (1) Heartless religion, (2) Being gatekeepers, (3) Religion that looks out for its own interest instead of the people they serve. Our anger is to immolate Jesus’ and lead to healing, selfless acts, and welcoming the people who feel do not feel valued.

Story by Juliana
I accepted Jesus in high school during ski camp and was on a Spiritual high. However, when I returned from camp, it was a quick downer and salvation certainly did not fix everything. In fact, I really did not hang out with Christian people and that made me feel guilty for everything I did. As an adult, I attended Bible study, tried to get involved, but my answers always seemed wrong. Many in the Bible study would help me find the right answers. However, it was difficult for me to reconcile their “right answers” and their true actions. I got a divorce after an 11-year marriage, which alienated me from the church even more. Finally, at 48, I stumbled across the VOX podcast and feel safe to belong. I do things because I fiercely love people as a Christian. I feel okay to doubt and ask questions. I am a Christian and nobody can steal that. As part of the launch team, I feel blessed to be part of this journey.
