What are we doing to protect our dogs from dental disease?  I’m not sure the average dog owner knows just how easy it is to care for your dog’s teeth.

Home dental care is one of the most important things you can do for your dog, in addition to giving him food and love.   But fewer than 10 percent of dog owners brush their pet’s teeth on a regular basis…if at all.

That has to change because 75 to 85 percent of dogs and cats over the age of three experience some degree of dental disease, which has been associated with heart and kidney disease.  This is one of the most critical things that dog owners need to understand… Dental disease affects more than just the dog’s mouth. Diabetes, heart disease and sinus problems can all be affected by problems with the teeth.  Problems in one area of the body often affect other areas.  For instance, small dogs that reverse sneeze or have eye drainage very often have significant sinus inflammation from severe periodontal disease.
