Valentine's day has always put a huge pressure on many Ghanaian, Nigerian and African men in general, with many spending beyond their means.

Many Naija and Ghanaian girls have huge expectations when Valentine's day come along, from expensive gifts to an amazing evening. The women only offer sex in exchange for that effort. Valentine's day has nothing to with the giving of gifts but the capitalist industry has hijacked the day and over commercialised it. Men are forced to buy roses and chocolate plus go the extra mile for their women on that day.  All this is nonsense when you know the true history of valentine's day.

Valentine's day was a spring celebration where boys drew girls name from a bucket and then dated those girls. Another school of thought is that a catholic priest called Valentine decided to go against the emperor of Rome at the time and continued to marry soldiers when it was banned. He was imprisoned and fell in love with the prison warden's daughter whom he sent a letter to on the day he was to be executed. He signed the letter with his name and  is credited with the valentine's day.

The Wahaala Boys discuss the scam of valentine's day and ask since it isn't part of the African culture, should we stop celebrating it entirely?
