Rebecca Bender joins me on this episode to open our eyes to human trafficking and warns us against normalizing a hypersexual culture.  She encourages us that God pursues us in our sin and transforms our habits and minds.  Despite discussing some heavy topics, Rebecca’s joy and love for the Lord radiate throughout the episode.  I am so thankful for her encouragement and for the wisdom she dished out to us!

A little bit about the guest:

After escaping nearly six years of human trafficking, Rebecca Bender received the kind of restoration that only God provides. Now, an award-winning, social entrepreneur, she is the CEO & Founder of the Rebecca Bender Initiative, a non-profit that works with law enforcement, FBI, Homeland Security and aftercare programs to provide expert testimony, trainings and consultation across the globe. She is also the creator of Elevate Academy, an online school for women who want to pursue the call of God regardless of their past. Rebecca has earned her Master’s in Christian Thought from Bethel Seminary and enjoys influencing culture by teaching biblical truths for various audiences. Her new book, In Pursuit of Love, tells the remarkable story of her escape from sex trafficking. Rebecca and her husband, Matt, live in the Pacific Northwest with their four daughters.

Noteworthy quotes:

“Human trafficking is a gradual expansion in boundaries and an increase in trust.“ - 11:08

“[Transformation] takes work and it takes effort and it takes actually doing what the Word says to do.” - 30:53

“Don’t fall for less than, don’t fall for good enough.  Pursue all that God has for you. “ - 35:17

“The journey is just as important to develop relationship with your Father“ - 44:05

Questions for consideration:

  • How are we normalizing and glamorizing a hypersexual culture?

  • When it comes to a hypersexual culture, what boundaries do we set?  How do we keep a strong identity in who we are and who God is calling us to be?
