Why does Adam see the same man, over and over again, mile after mile, on the highway? During his week long drive from Manhattan to the west coast, the hitch hiker seems to pop up anywhere and everywhere. So, Adam calls home from a phone booth in New Mexico. Here, he finds out some mysterious information, not what he expected at all. This sheds some light on who the mysterious hitch hiker is, and why he is persistent in following Adam's westbound trip so closely.
