I only ever want yellow roses from now on.  During the push for the 19th amendment for women's right to vote, the yellow rose was the symbol of the suffragettes, whereas the red rose signified anti-votes for women.  It became a way to count the votes in a sort of exit poll.  We talk all this more on this episode of Weekly Woman.
