Stated on Feb. 16, 2020, law makers are proposing a bill that will change the charge of drug possession like heroin and meth from a felony to a misdemeanor. Hawaii State Sen. Karl Rhoads says that this bill would treat the crimes as a health issue rather than a criminal justice issue, that they need treatment rather than punishment. "As long as the person doesn't commit other crimes to steal or to rob people to support their drug habit, there's no point in treating (the offense) as a felony because what they really need is drug rehab," Rhoads said. But meth and heroin are also leading causes to theft in Hawaii. What do you think?
