Chloe Kattar is a historian, and is currently pursuing a PhD in history at Cambridge University, where she is writing her thesis that analyzes the intellectual history of the Lebanese civil war. Since the start of the Lebanese revolution on October 17th 2019, Chloe’s Instagram page @leb.historian has gained quite the following. Through her posts, she brings a new perspective to the Lebanese political and socio-economical crisis, adding historical parallels and explanations to her reporting. Chloe’s work struck a chord with so many Lebanese because official history books stop the day after the country gained its independence in 1943. In this episode, Chloe talks to us about the importance of history to revolutions, why women are missing from history’s pages, and what are some of the obstacles she herself has faced as a Lebanese woman in academia.
