What is network marketing?

Hayden describes network marketing as “business stripped down to its most fun parts,” which are connecting with people, offering solutions, and helping people reach their goals. Hayden and Emily, specifically, are helping people reach their nutrition goals.

Entrepreneur defines network marketing as, “A business model in which a distributor network is needed to build the business. Usually such businesses are also multilevel marketing in nature in that payouts occur at more than one level.” Some of the best-known examples are Mary Kay Cosmetics, Avon, and Tupperware.

Network marketing often gets a bad reputation because it is compared to or confused with pyramid schemes. Hayden thinks this is because, like in any profession, there were some bad actors – but he also thinks the profession has matured beyond those growing pains and the worst days are behind it.

And it makes a lot of sense that these businesses are increasingly popular today because everyone is looking for a side hustle, or just a little extra income, and everyone wants a product to solve their problems and help them reach their goals.

If you want an even more in-depth explanation, Emily Vargas breaks it down in their video, “Give Yourself a Raise.”

The Income Model

Hayden likes the income model of network marketing because everyone is equally invested; “If I don’t help other people be successful, I can’t be successful, and vice versa.”

When things start out, like in any other business, you will feel like you’re doing way more work than you’re getting paid to do. But as momentum builds – as you find the right people – things will begin to snowball.

“All of a sudden, it’s this big wave of people who have the same mission, the same vision, and they’re all moving in the same direction.”

However, a lot of people expect immediate results and instant gratification (a common problem with popular side hustles these days). But if you are patient, find people who have already figured out the process, listen to them, and then trust that process, you will succeed.

“You have to do the work if you want the results.”
