Sourdough Starter

Join us on this super cool adventure as we head out to one of my favourite places on Vancouver Island, Metchosin, to pick up my sourdough starter. You will get to meet lots of friendly animals on their farm: Blue Dog Farm Metchosin @blue.dog.farm.metchosin. Be sure to follow them on Instagram. She directed us to Nookta Rose Milling in Metchosin, a small mill to get the flour for the bread, which was beyond cool!

We got some einkorn flour, an ancient grain which many people are able to digest more easily even if they are allergic to wheat. My friend Shannon, who is a professional chef recommended this flour. Follow Shannon @shannonsnaturalkitchen on Instagram. I don’t recommend using it in your sourdough starter - I didn’t like the texture. It made my sourdough starter runny, watery and in the end the starter separated. So this flour is a little tricky to work with. You can watch me fumble my way through my first loaf of sour dough bread in this vlog.

Let me know your tips for baking better sourdough bread and your experiences with sourdough if you have gluten intolerances. Thanks so much for watching. Namaste, Melissa
