4 THE PATH TO BETEL
SEPARATION OF THE COMMON,


It happened on a Sabbath,
that Jesus passed through the fields,
his disciples plucked ears and ate,
 rubbing them with your hands.
And some of the Pharisees said to them: Why do you do what is not lawful to do on the Sabbaths? Responding Jesus, he told them:
You have not even read this,
what David did
when he was hungry,
and those who were with him;
how he entered the house of God,
and took the loaves of the proposition,
of which it is not lawful to eat but only to the priests, and he ate, and gave also to those who were with him?
And he told them:
The Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.
It happened also on another Sabbath,
that he entered the synagogue and taught;
 and there was a man who had his right hand dry.
 And the scribes and Pharisees lurked,
 to see if on the Sabbath he would heal, in order to find what to accuse him.
But he knew their thoughts;
 and said to the man who had the dry hand:
Get up, and stand in the middle.
 And he, getting up, stood up. Then Jesus said to them:
I will ask you one thing:
Is it lawful on a Sabbath to do good, or do badly?
 Save life, or take it away?
And looking at everyone around,
He said to the man: Extend your hand.
And he did so, and his hand was restored.
And they were filled with fury,
and they talked to each other
 what could they do against Jesus?

SANCTIFICATION OF THE HEART

In those days he went to the mountain to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
