122: Why Do We Have a Hard Time Supporting Physician-Owned Businesses? - a podcast by Mike Woo-Ming, MD MPH Physician-Entepreneur

There still exists a negative association of doctors wanting to start their own business. There are many reasons for this:
There are many who feel bad at starting a venture “for profit”, although I have yet to see a business grow without the use of money. Some equate a business as just another “side hustle”, like becoming an Uber driver. Other see clinicians starting a business just to keep themselves occupied until something better comes along.
Many don’t see that a medical doctor acquires many skills and experiences that can be taught to others. We are experiencing a big shift in employed medicine, and because of this opens an opportunity. I first noticed this a few years ago, at my keynote address at BootcampMD 2.0. On this episode, you’ll hear an excerpt from this talk, and why the importance of promoting and spotlighting physician-owned businesses is greater than ever.
