Episode 94: How much protein do you need? - a podcast by Jessica Cording, MS, RD, CDN, INHC
from 2021-01-27T14:00
As a dietitian and health coach, I get a lot of questions about how much protein one should consume, so I wanted to record this solo podcast to share some insight with you. Interestingly, I hear from people on both sides of the protein-eating spectrum: there are those who try to consume as much protein as possible, while others limit their intake. No matter where you are in your protein-consumption, there are some important things to know:
- Protein makes up the building blocks of our organs, muscles, skin, and hormones; our body needs protein for healthy living and to maintain and repair tissues.
- Protein helps us meet our needs for the essential amino acids we need to get from food.
- Whether you eat meat or opt for a vegetarian or vegan diet, there are a variety of protein sources from which you can choose.
- Various life and health stages impact our need for protein.
