The Leave No Trace Trail Marathon & Half Marathon takes place on the beautiful Camp Manatoc trail system within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Manatoc is a Boy-scout camp and their trails are closed to the public except for this one weekend each year. Co-host Jett Croisant and I both lined up for the full marathon and ended up cutting it short that day.
It was at about mile ten or eleven while running through the Virginia Kendall Ledges that I really messed up my ankle. I leaped off a rock, landed on my foot with my ankle sideways, and heard a pop sound. Without being able to stop myself I went straight down onto the sandy trail below. Leave No Trace ended up leaving a pretty sizeable bruise on my swollen ankle, and bloodied up knees for many others. This was my very first real running injury and my first DNF. The morning ended with Jett carrying me to the car.
