Quest for a DNF
A very unusual Quest for the Crest 50k race report. Certainly the most difficult 50k in the United States, Quest takes runner’s on an epic journey through North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Featuring breathtaking views, luscious forest, tunnels of mountain laurel, and nearly 12,000 feet of elevation gain this ultra marathon is much more than just a run through the woods.
Runners had to climb up mountains with their hands, filter their own water out of streams, and meet aggressive time cut offs all in eighty eight degree heat and humidity. This quest ultimately left me disappointed and empty handed as I faced missing the 18.5 mile cutoff by mere minutes and was driven off course by volunteers to a fate of DNF and no metal for the finish.
In this podcast I share my takeaways on the course, the training, and what I would do different if I were to seek revenge. Quest for the Crest 50k
11,800 ft of gain in just 33ish miles in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The first three miles perhaps being the most brutal with 2,800 ft as the warm up.
